New Releases of JAWS Screen Reading Software and MAGic Screen Magnification Software Deliver Even Better Performance

(St. Petersburg, Florida, June 22, 2006) – All the newest features of the world’s most popular screen reading and screen magnification software now are available, with the simultaneous release of JAWS® for Windows 7.10 and MAGic Screen Magnification 10.0. Accessible from the Freedom Scientific Web site, both releases bring users more enhancements to increase ease-of-use and performance.

JAWS 7.10, a free update for existing JAWS 7.0 screen reading software users, now includes:

  • Support for automatic updates
  • All new support for Corel WordPerfect Office X3
  • Hundreds of additional changes and fixes which are detailed in the online help and on our Web site

Extensive beta testing was invested in JAWS 7.10, resulting in a release that contains features and fixes that reflect user preferences.

“Freedom Scientific thanks the thousands of users who participated in our three-month public beta process of JAWS 7.10,” said Eric Damery, Freedom Scientific’s Vice President of Product Management, Software. “The feedback helped us focus on the day-to-day issues that users experience with the wide range of software packages they access with JAWS. We also are very pleased with the success of our new update feature, which helped our customers easily install five updates during the beta process of 7.10.”

New screen magnification features in MAGic 10.0 make it an essential tool for anyone who has low vision and uses a computer.

"MAGic users now get superior access to information through new features like improved visual screen tracking, the ability to customize MAGic for their favorite programs, and increased control over speech verbosity,” said Dusty Voorhees, Senior Product Manager. “Our customers will enjoy the unsurpassed flexibility, control, and accuracy it provides. MAGic 10.0 is our best release yet."

  • MAGic Basic Training is provided in accessible DAISY format. Included is a free FSReader Demo for reading the DAISY format
  • MAGic’s newly-designed speech with greater responsiveness and flexibility
  • Voice settings that can be individually configured for document reading, informative spoken messages, typing echo, menu and dialog reading, and mouse echo voices
  • Create voice profiles that allow you to choose a synthesizer, language, and customize individual voices. Additional profiles can be defined for tasks such as proofreading and speed reading. Switch to a profile with a single key combination
  • Users can define magnification, speech, and other unique settings for applications like Word, Excel, and the Internet. The user’s unique settings automatically activate when the application is started

MAGic customers who have a current Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA) will receive the MAGic 10.0 upgrade on CD in July. SMA customers who have not yet switched over to ILM authorization will be issued a new serial number and sent an authorization CD as part of their shipment.

Shipments of MAGic sent since March 1, 2006, have been pre-authorized for MAGic 10.0. From the Freedom Scientific Web site, users can download and immediately use MAGic 10.0.
