Installing PAC Mate
1.10 Firmware and Software Update
NOTE: THIS UPDATE
WILL ERASE ALL FILES ON YOUR PAC MATE.
FOLLOW
THESE BACK UP STEPS FIRST:
- Sync your PAC Mate so that your Desktop Outlook is totally up to date.
- Back up all your PAC Mate files. Do NOT perform an ActiveSync backup, as an ActiveSync restore will restore your old system files as well, thus overwriting your new update. Instead, copy your PAC Mate files to a folder on your desktop PC or to a Compact Flash card so that your can copy them back to your PAC Mate after the update is complete.
- You will also need to reinstall any third party applications or device drivers that you have added to your PAC Mate. If you use the same desktop computer for the update, this should be as easy as selecting Tools/Add Remove Programs in ActiveSync and checking the relevant checkboxes.
To load Update 1.10
onto your PC follow these steps:
- Establish either an ActiveSync standard or guest partnership with
your PAC Mate and computer.
- Click here to Begin
Download of PAC Mate 1.10.
When the File Download dialog opens, press ENTER on the Open button.
- Once the download is complete a Self-Extracting Archive dialog opens.
In this dialog press ENTER to extract the files to your desktop.
To load Update 1.10
onto your PAC Mate follow these steps:
- PACMateUpdate.exe will now appear on your desktop. Select and press
ENTER on PACMateUpdate.exe. This opens the PAC Mate 1.10 Install
dialog.
- Press SPACEBAR on the Install button. This starts the installation
process, which takes approximately 20 minutes.
Note: Do not
press any keys on your PAC Mate while the update is installing.
- Once the installation is complete, another dialog opens indicating
whether the installation is successful. If successful, press ENTER
to close this dialog and perform a hard reset on your PAC Mate. (Performing
a hard reset: PAC
Mate TNS, PAC
Mate BNS).
If the installation is unsuccessful do not perform a hard reset. Instead, reinstall the update by pressing ENTER on PACMateUpdate.exe.
Note: If you
tried to update your PAC Mate and received an error message or your unit
did not update successfully, please contact Freedom Scientific technical
support. Arrangements will be made to return the unit to Freedom Scientific
at our expense so that we can perform the update. Technical support can

After the update is complete, remember to copy your files back to your PAC Mate and reinstall any applications or device drivers you had added previously.
